Native Garden
The Anderson Family has owned and developed this native garden since 1995. Our Swiss style three storey lodge rests in 5 acres of native bush and is designed to capture majstic views of Mt Egmont/Taranaki. It is boardering to the Egmont National Park which covers an area of 83'000 acres of untouched bush and mountain. Landscaping includes all New Zealand natives, lakes, waterweehl and bushwalk. The rainforest has many rimu, totara, kahikatea, lancewood and miro trees. Flaxes are growing profusely and are providing food and a playground for many native birds such as tui, bellbird, wood pigeon and indeed the wild kiwi. You will find many delicate ferns, mosses. lichens and some beautiful flowering tree and ground orchads. There are mountain five finger, leatherwood, comprosmas, hebes and the very special mountain cabbage tree. Take a bush walk which will immediatly transfer you into another world full of magic and wonder. Everthing in our garden is natural and native except my vegetable garden and about 25 rhododendron. These trive in the envoronment, as it is close to the conditions where they originate from. During the Taranaki Rhododnedron Festival (end of October to early Nov) we are open from 9am to 5pm and entry is a $2.00 coin. During the rest of the year visitors are welcomed by priore arrangement. You also might like to take away one of my poted native plants as I usually replant what I have to clear out and it is nice to know that my "illegals" can grow in other parts of New Zealand.
